TRANSMUTATION is focusing on the tumor transformation process from normal to malignant and invasive cells by acquisition of mutations- demonstrating the important, clonal growth of the tumor- diverse transformed cells in a tumor have different aggressiveness and heterogeneous behavior. Different textures and colors represent sequential transformation and aggressivity levels of a tumor.
COLLABORATING through an exchange of pictures, sketches, and science cartoons, design concepts have been created. Designs are refined with fabric manipulations and prototypes and jointly reviewed to ensure research and design experience purity. Using silk organza with leading edge boiling and ice dying techniques on the fabric, we represent tumor transformation. Fabric will be layered to demonstrate how cancer evolves and expands along the process. The design will mimic the tumor transformation by taking advantage of the fabric textures and colors.
